The video HOW-TO for the simplified man

I should also follow up with the fact that Vado's, while being a great value, have really really poor quality control regarding their battery supplier. In doing some internet research, the likelihood of getting a device with a "swollen" (aka defective) battery is about 40%. So buyer beware.

I was chatting with Contour while at CES in Vegas earlier this month, and I will say, their new camera is THA SHIZZNIT! Built in wifi, bluetooth (to control it, and stream video direct - though the iPhone app was still in beta), and there are aftermarket lenses now available through a third party.

Alos, Contour is based out of the Seattle area, and they sounded interested in possible sponsorship of PRO3 and/or conference. Hoping to follow up with them this year to see if we can work a deal..

While I know everyone seems to be all over GoPro, it would be nice to support a local company and if we help them, they would be more than willing to help us!

Heck yea! I'd sport a Contour!

I have a concern about the ContourGPS and Contour+. If I don't have an iPhone or an Android phone then I don't get to use my Contour remotely. Also the App says you can do really cool things remotely but I can't confirm if I can start/stop the recording remotely. Also, Do I really want to be racing with my smart phone on me and messing with bluetooth and what not on pregrid? To argue with myself: "But Colin, you guy buy an old Android phone on Ebay, leave it without cell service and just use your home wifi to D/L the app and voila, cheap 'remote'." That's a good point Colin.. That's a good point.

With the Go-Pro 2 and Wi-FI bacpac Remote, conversely, I don't need a phone, an app or bluetooth. Just a simple 2 button remote that I can stick to the side of my race seat with velcro, hit one button and forget about it. Go-Pro doesn't have a price for this accessory yet, but if it's under $200 then that means the camera+Wifi remote will priced in between the Contour+ ($499) and the CountourGPS ($299)

I think it would be absolutely fantastic for a company like Contour to sponsor ICSCC. Who's in charge of pursuing this lead?

Kinda off-topic, but in the spirit of "getting some better video promotion of Conference," here's a video made by the BMW CCA Puget Sound chapter for their HPDE/car control clinics on YouTube. Nice, huh?

More solutions (including remote Mic and Remote Recording)

I'm a little befuddled how I missed this as an option as it's a great piece and much less expensive than the GoPRO and Contour GPS to achieve remote recording... Plus it can use an external mic! Holy HELL!

It's called the Drift Innovation HD170, about $160. (and the newer/smaller model the HD for 2x the $$). You will need to buy an SD card (I always recommend a class 10 if you can afford it).

Shoots in 720P @ 25,30 and 60fps and 1080p @ 25 and 30fps.

Great "HOW TO" on this camera as well in regards to: Pairing the remote, installing the big battery and doing a firmware upgrade.

Looks like the Drift HD170 would work with any traditional tripod mount but the HD170 comes with its own mounts too.
