Spokane Grand Prix

Spokane is just around the corner -hope to see you. The big news is this will be the last year for our current track configuration. The county commissioners approved the funds to re-ailgn the road course this fall. Come and set fast lap and it will live forever. Week end HIGHLIGHTS:
Friday: Practice and qualifying PLUS the Porsche Cup Challenge Race and a GREAT BBQ.
Saturday: Qualifying and racing PLUS the BMW Challenge Race PLUS the Show and Shine for the Street Rod gang Saturday afternoon. The Show & Shine group will parade lap after our last race and then park in pre- grid for our enjoyment Plus these gear-heads will join us for the world famous DAVID'S PIZZA and the equally famous LAZY BOY BAND
Sunday: We plan on being done and headed home before 3 pm. We MIGHT combine groups 3 & 6 but of course I can't publish that just yet.

Sounds like another great weekend is planned for us! The gang at NWMS sure do throw a good party. See you there!

We can't wait either as Spokane was the highlight of our season last year. Great people, great event and I dig the track.
See you all there!

First time out to Spokane.
What are the paddocks like?
I was poking through various racetrack websites and the one thing they have in common is showing almost nothing on facilities.
And if there a map, it's not to scale so I can't figure out if the space is 20', 40' or 60'.
Kind of odd that you actually have to visit a racetrack in order to know where the bathrooms are, if there are plugins, parking restrictions (boy, that's another topic altogether) etc.
So if you find me poking around your paddock area at Spokane -- don't worry. I'm not scoping out your tools. Or your car. Just looking for a plug-in!

Between roads the paddock is about 100 feet in places. Then there are the places outside the roads, where the only restriction is not blocking the views between turn stations. If you make it to the T&T on the 8th you can accomplish 2 things - 1. get a good paddock spot 2. learn the track which is fast and has only a few places that can bite. It is a great track.
Water on site at faucets in center area, flush toilets and sinks on the hill by drag race grand stands, limited power in the picnic area if they turn it on, so bring a generator or share one if you need it. Paddock access from the outside is between sessions only, entrance is off of Sprague just west of the Casino. You go past Oval behind Turn 8.

What's the story on camping?
I don't have a "camper", but was thinking I'd get there on Friday and deploy the tent or sleep in the rig...saving me an early morning trip from my BIL's place in Couer d' Alene early Saturday morning.

Hey Olsen, need a paddock buddy? Or do you want to keep your Pro3 cronies from knowing you have friends that drive Miatas? ;)

The paddock area is rather large, not as vast as PR but in the last two years there has been lots of room to spread out.

Here's what I just put together, if anything's changed please correct it:

You bet, pal! Just make sure to find a set of chrome kidneys to zip tie onto the Miata grill and no one will be the wiser. That should protect my good name with the PRO3 guys...oh, wait, it's much too late for that, isn't it? Oh well.

I may have no crew that weekend and the family may be scarce too, so I'll have a spot for you in the Redneck B&B or it's guest house (aka, "trailer"). Nothing but the finest of accomodations here!

Greg Miller hit the particulars for the "services" available at the track. Best to come prepared for self-contained paddocking, and anything you find on site is then a bonus. If you need juice, I know you're bound to find someone nearby with a generator who would be more than willing to allow a plug-in. Unless of course you're planning to run a 2-ton HVAC unit along with your Bose surround sound, 220v-three phase air compressor, and Lincoln Tig welder...

Spokane is awesome.

Sweet! That'll work out well, I'm always happy to help turn a wrench work tire temps/pressures for you too.
The NCW schedule should allow me to help out before/after at least one of your groups, easy.

When are you truckin' over?

Ok, thanks guys.

I'm bringing my own juice. Just wondered how tight or loose things were and if there were any facilities (like plug in RV power existed).

Looking at google maps it is not at all apparent where the entry to the track is located. There are few roads off of Sprague that look right.

Is that a wrecking yard in the middle?

We used to access the track from Sprague, but now it's off Hayford Ave. Just past the Casino (which you cannot miss) there is a rusty old pylon sign for the track. Turn left there and drive down a road that appears to go due west into nowhere. At about a quarter mile in, the road turns left...just follow it keeping an eye to the west at the south end of the oval track. You will pick up the road coarse/drag strip entry. Beleive it or not, it actually makes sense when you're there driving into it.

The google aerial is dated - back when it showed the wrecking yard in the middle of the paddock; so yes, it was there! The County (and NWMS) have done a great job cleaning it up.

The actual Track entry/crossing is in the same place, getting to that point though involves using the different access...someone in Spokane should jump in here to verify my details...

I guess that's my question, then. When I first went to Spokane, I took the long-ass twisty route to get to the track crossing, only to find out that I could've just turned in across from the prison entrance. If that's no longer a viable shortcut, it'd be good to know.

Steve, IIRC we did not use the directly-across-the-street-from-the-prison entrance as in the old days.

We turned in early (by the Casino) and drove up the road one does to access the oval track.
