SCCA 944 Cup drivers have Spokane questions

schwank

Code X Motorsports
Hey there folks... I am trying to help some of my 944 compatriots get some answers about the Spokane race. They are all NW SCCA licensed drivers and have not raced Conference events before, but we are trying to get them out. I have raced with all of them in the past and they should have no issue getting along with ICSCC racers.

So far none have registered for Spokane as they have been unable to get answers from NWMS to the following questions. Can anyone help out... I have penciled in what I believe are the answers to a few of the questions but could use some more help. I really want to get these guys out to the race but if it goes much longer they are gonna just bail until Pacific at the end of the month, which IMHO sucks...

Thanks!

1. What group(s) to register for? I have been telling them Group 5 and possibly Group 7 ( special race?) This is what we are doing at Pacific later in the month.
Group 5 ITS is our primary points race and there is a special radio button on the registration page for adding the 944 Cup group race.

2. How do we handle car numbers? Will they need to add a “7” in front of their regular number?

3. Places to stay close by?

4. Does the track have race fuel on site? If not is there fuel to be bought in Spokane?

5. Can you accommodate them all pitting together as they share spares and tools?

6. Can you send me a schedule for the weekend yet?

7. One of the cars has two drivers, so they may wish to enter an additional group.
Based on our prep level, if the car has a chip and headers you would likely have to run EIP. If the car has stock chip and headers, E Prod is a candidate but the weight limits are prohibitively high for a 944.

8. All of them have SCCA regional or National licenses, and all the cars have a current SCCA Logbook with an annual inspection. Will they need to do more than show their logbook and gear?
Based on past experience I told them I don't believe this to be an issue with a current SCCA annual and that it would just be a quick checkin on gear. Please correct me if necessary.

Group 5 EIP is where some of our 944s run. Both EIP and ITS are based on the SCCA rule set. As you can see on this web site under Race Results. It is possible to run in Grp 4 under RS - provided you meet the rules - see Technical Reference - Competition Regulations 1310 RS - no guarantee you'll be competitive but you would be on track - problem being that Grp 4 is just before Grp 5 making it a back to back. The challenge race looks like a natural for your SCCA 944s but that is Fri only.
Group 5 ITS is our primary points race and there is a special radio button on the registration page for adding the 944 Cup group race. If you can't find it email the reg shown on the announcement.

2. How do we handle car numbers? Will they need to add a “7” in front of their regular number?

In most cases yes. If the same car number has been registered in the same run group earlier then you will have to get another 700#. (Like if a NASA or SCCBC beat you to registration)

3. Places to stay close by?
MicroTel is cheap and close, and several others - look for lodging in Airway Heights - West of Spokane.

4. Does the track have race fuel on site? If not is there fuel to be bought in Spokane?
I believe so - Andy Collins is usually there - but Historics? is in Portland that weekend

5. Can you accommodate them all pitting together as they share spares and tools?
There has been no assigned paddock space in the past - but we PR03 people usually manage to get space together for the most part by arriving early and establishing a plan for the later arrival. (There is open trailer storage space on the edge of paddock so you can compact up pretty well)

8. All of them have SCCA regional or National licenses, and all the cars have a current SCCA Logbook with an annual inspection. Will they need to do more than show their logbook and gear? Depends on who is running tech - often this is ok. Group 2 and 3 are the only mandatory this weekend.

See above.

The answers I added above based on my experience- official answers may vary. We hope your guys come and enjoy the fast long track at SRP.

You 944 Cup drivers are all welcome and encouraged to come to Spokane. Greg Fordahl asked me about race fuel a week ago, and he was going to give the group the info and let me know how much to have on hand. Yes, Armadillo will be there too. So, send an email to sadare(at)aol.com with amount and grade, and I will make sure it is available.

I will add some answers to your questions below, but if someone in the group wants to email me and copy the group, I'll get a dialogue going. I wasn't aware that your questions were not being answered. You guys need to come. We have a special race essentially for you, and 944s love the Spokane track.

1. What group(s) to register for?
Group 7 is the special race on Friday - Go for it.
Group 1 has SPM, where you can run against each other, though perhaps not competitively against other cars in the class.
Group 4 has RS
Group 5 has EIP and ITS

2. How do we handle car numbers? Will they need to add a “7” in front of their regular number?
Yes, add a 7. It will be extremely rare that you can't have your regular number with a 7 in front. Neatness counts!

3. Places to stay close by?
Microtel is now the Days Inn and Suites. Mention Adare Motorsports for the rate in the mid $70s tax included. The Northern Quest Resort and Casino has $109 rooms. Really nice and near food and gambling. Search Airway Heights for other options.

4. Does the track have race fuel on site? If not is there fuel to be bought in Spokane?
Armadillo will have fuel, if you guys let me know what you need, I will make sure it is here.

5. Can you accommodate them all pitting together as they share spares and tools?
I will make that happen if you get an email dialogue going with me direct.

6. Can you send me a schedule for the weekend yet?

7. One of the cars has two drivers, so they may wish to enter an additional group.
See classes above. You can get the car out in several run groups.

8. All of them have SCCA regional or National licenses, and all the cars have a current SCCA Logbook with an annual inspection. Will they need to do more than show their logbook and gear?
The rotation for Spokane means that you guys won't have to endure a full tech if you have an annual.
