NW Young Guns

I've been thinking about this, Ted Anthony Jr., Joey Atterbury & Andrew Cadell. They fall into what I would call "NW Young Guns".
Are there any other drivers who should be included in this group?

Absolutely.... Carl Skerlong from Mukilteo

http://www.carlskerlong.com/

63 races
31 wins
40 podiums
18 poles

If you missed the duel between him and Mark Jaremko at the SCCA Double a few years ago, you missed a magnificent race.

Jeff was working Turn 3 that day. He said Dad you should-a seen it. Carl made a pass on Mark in Turn 3 that I didn't think anybody could do.

There was a bit of a 'thing' between the two of them late in the weekend and (NOT SURE) but I think it lead to Carl having his SCCA license suspended.. So he went ALMS racing LOL. At the time, Jaremko was the SCCA D/SR National Champion so... who knows what really happened. Either a 'bump' Orrrrr a brake check.. Hmmmm

Regardless, Carl is for sure one of the Young Guns from the Northwest. Sponsor is King Taco.

Stage Rally is big up here in the PNW. Quinn Morley and James Von Protzeller are a very underfunded college student driver/co-driver rally team from western Washington who've managed to compaign a 1975 Saab rally car on the proverbial "shoestring budget". They don't even have a trailer or support vehicle. They bring what they need with them in their rally car! Anyway, I consider them among the Young Guns of the PNW rally world.

Didn't know about David Jurca. Just looked at his web site. They still have his Grandfathers car that he built and raced in the Czech. Republic. It's one beautiful and unique piece of machinery from the 1950's. They should bring that out to the SOVERN Historics events even if it's just for booth display.

I was trying to rember David Jurca's name. I'm glad some one else did. He got some local press two years ago when he was getting ready for the TDI Cup.

So this would be my NW Young Guns list (In alphabetical order)-
Andrew Cadell
Carl Skerlong
David Jurca
Joey Atterbury
Tayler Malsam
Ted Anthony Jr.

If any one else has suggestions let me know. My thought is for a driver to fall into this group they should be competing on a national level.
Joey Atterbury just said he would do an interview for http://nwracingstuff.blogspot.com/

Great thread. Its cool to see these kids coming up through the ranks. Ive had the opportunity to work with some of these kids, They are all business when it comes to racing.

Ok NW Racing stuff poll for this week: Who's the top NW Young Gun?
Vote now http://nwracingstuff.blogspot.com/
A NW IROC type series would be really cool. Take these six guys, in equal cars 4 races.
Let them race at Pacific Raceways, Evergreen Speedway(On the 5/8 & 3/8 tracks), & PIR.

Another is Thomas Micich from Sherwood. He just started in SCCA this year at 15 years old. Finished 9th in Spec Miata in his frst race.

Thomas may be the youngest in oregon SCCA, but there's also Robert Linse (17) and myself (19), both in Spec Miata. Granted, I'm not a "young gun", as unlike both Robert and Thomas, My racing efforts are paid for solely out of my pocket, thus i'm at the back. Working way too much for a kid my age to afford my racing, and I wouldnt have it any other way :)
