Helmets: 2017 Rule Clarification

Based on the below, it appears helmets dated 2005 or later with the proper safety designation are acceptable for 2017.
I've included the 2017 Helmet Safety rules and links for ICSCC & SCCA for comparative reasons for those who race both organizations.

SCCA: From January 2017 edition.

GCR Page 94 Section 9 C Paragraph 2

http://cdn.growassets.net/user_file...556/GCR-_Updated_February_2017.pdf?1485903265

The rule reads: Crash helmets approved by the Snell Foundation with Snell sticker 2010 or later Special Application SA2010/SAH2010, or SA2015/SAH2015, or by the SFI with a SFI Sticker SFI 31.1, or by the FIA standard 8860-2004 or later, or British Standards Institute BS6658-85 type A/FR.

ICSCC: From 2016 Competition Rec's. Section E 1105 Safety Equipment Paragraph D

http://icscc.com/references/comp_regs_2016.pdf

The rule reads: Helmets and goggles. All helmets shall conform or be equal to 2005 or later Snell Foundation specification.

I do not see a change to this rule based on the approved rule changes posted in ICSCC Memo 10 dated December 2016.

Please verify if helmets dated 2005 or later are acceptable for 2017 ICSCC competition?

Much appreciated,

Jim,

The helmet rule is 1105 D, the E means it can only be changed by the Executive Board and not the Contest Board. The approved rule changes posted in the Memo were from the Contest Board.

The Executive Board did change the rule at the Fall Meeting to read 2010 instead of 2005 for 2017. The 2017 Rule Book will be online in less than 30 days reflecting this change.

The new rule will be mentioned in my first Race Steward message coming out in Memo # 1. All drivers will need to have a 2010 or newer helmet to compete in 2017 ICSCC races.

Thank you Dan. As usual, another well worded and clear clarification.

Tim will be quite happy he will not have to purchase a new helmet.
