Getting Back into Racing

Hi All, I use to race FV's but had to give it up due to "lack of funds"...

It looks like I may be able to race again and my dream car/group has always been Sport Racers (prefer D or F here in ICSCC).

I'm looking for information, I'll be racing in ICSCC here in the Seattle area. I know Dick, Dennis and Lee and I hope they remember me. Here are a few questions...

1) How are the grids currently? I don't want to just lap, I want to race and being out there by myself is never any fun...

2) Know of any cars for sale? I'm hoping for local cars to look at/sit in. Currently I'm a little over race weight but I hope to be changing that too soon!

I really want to get back in racing, I miss it way too much!

How about racing a door-slammer? There's a $4500 Dodge Neon ITA car for sale in this forum's classified section right now. Plenty of competition in ITA and I bet this car could run in one of the Group 2 classes as well.

If I go to "door-slammers" it would be PRO-3, I've crewed for Kahn, Spornitz and Tom Olson, too much history there! Bill thinks I would be a "PIA" in PRO-3 ;P

Karl, if you go into the 'Events & Results' section from the home page, you can look at the last couple years of participation in Grp 6. From my seat it has been filling in nicely, increasing with population and popularity, but could always use another competitor in the field.

It does need more (any) FVs, but that is a whole 'nother story.

Hope to see you out there soon... three months??

Great to hear Karl!

Stop by (you're right down the street after all) and check out my under construction FV. It is a 2011 Vortech.

If that hurt you in the past, stand by. D/SR has become quite expensive with the Stohr's and West's leading the charge. Talking $30 to $60 thousand for new cars. You can sometimes find Cheetah's and A-Mac's at lower prices but they have been religated to mid-pack.

Without a DOUBT the best bang for the buck outside of door slammers is in FC. Competitive FCs can be found for $9 to $20 thousand and the field has been growing over the last few years in Group 3.

I've got a good PRO 7 RX7 for sale.. I've moved to the Midwest and my care is still in Oregon... I'm looking to sell it quick... Any offers around $3200 and it's yours... I have an add in the classifieds...

I responded in the Sports Racer forum to your questions. Glad to have you back Karl. Couple S/Rs available but need to dig around for them.

Karl, It is great to hear that you will be returning to racing. The FSR grid needs your support and I know of a Cheetah that is ready for the track and available for purchase. Give me a call.

It seems a little different in conference, but up here, the FVs are really picking up in popularity. Keep hearing about more people buying vees and bringing them out of the woodwork, 2011 should be a great year to run a Vee.

FV is really all I know as far as cost goes, but as far as I can see, there is no possible way to compare the cost of running a vee with a sports racer.. I completely understand your desire to drive a DSR (oh man do I want a shiny new Stohr!!) but.. Damn does it look pricey.

Cool to see you get back into racing though - your old tsunami says "Hi" from my garage!

I was just at the Palm Tree Quad Nationals down in Florida... At Sebring there was only about 5 FV's but at Homestead there was at least 10 each day... Very competitive ones too!

FV was my first racecar so I always go find them when I'm at the races...

Yeah I think the open wheel guys in general aren't big fans of sebring.. Maybe something to do with sitting on the floor of the car hehe.

welcome back Karl. FC and FV are both great choices. The FV grids have been getting bigger every session and FC is starting to gain momentum at 2 or 3 cars/grid.

I have both so give me a call sometime - I bought your FV and got 2nd in the CACC Championship that year then lack of work (ie $$$) made me sell it to Tiago - its still around - I miss that car. FV is still the best bang for the buck....... FF is also competitive with some nice cars available.

See you at the track

A few years back I too was looking to get back into racing and decided that FC was the best bang for the buck. I choose a 1985 Swift DB-3, and last year I upgraded to a newer car. The 2 ltr engines are pretty robust if you keep them oiled and watered and check the valves if you rev them to high. They also continue to make good power for a long (50hrs, bottom end) time. The most common cars are VD,s and parts/technology are readily available. Here in the NW we have cars that range from 1983 to 1999 models. 1995 and beyond are generally capable of national comp times, and any VD 1997 or beyond can be updated (i have been told this but I have a 99 Mygale so.....). Wings are really cool. More important there is no one racing at the moment that will spend you into the ground, I get 8-10 heat cycles out of my Avon tires before there is a significant amount of fall off and I reckon there are some cars going a long time on tires. Give me a call if you want to chat. 5099262290

A few years ago when I was looking for an open wheel car I had narrowed it down to a FC or a FSV. I decided on the FSV due to the ground effects and the aluminum monoqoque. A FC would also have been a great choice. Good luck on finding a car and it will be nice to have another car on the track.

Karl,
I saw your thread (on 2 forums), but stayed silent because
it seemed there was a local car with motivated seller that was
a perfect fit for your wishes.
Now I understand that car was sold elsewhere.
Please, give me a call, there may be two interesting possibilities.
