Sure Ken, I'm the first stop for Novices and their issues. I'll gladly do what I can to field their questions, and forward them onto the ROD. Grammatical error intentional, and in jest.
For what it's worth, my personal results are incorrect too. They were incorrect provisionally, corrected in the first published pdf iteration, and when the corrected version was published, incorrect yet again.
Again, for what it's worth, my personal results for the last group of the day at Portland were also incorrect. As were the entire group's results, but since appear to have been sorted out. Obviously the problems aren't exclusive to any one member club. I don't envy Mike B.
As a side personal issue, I still disagree with the Portland results, but it's my fault for not understanding the limitations of the system. The utility that determines finishing order must be the transponder only, since I know for a fact I beat Rod to the line by a mere few inches, and he agrees, yet he is shown ahead of me in the results. I didn't appreciate that the transponder placement on the car was all that critical until I asked Rod where his was mounted, and he told me near the front of his car. Mine used to be on the rear frame rail. It's near the front now.
All these issues with timing and scoring, and results, have been a personal frustration for me, for years now actually, and I'm sure that I'm not alone. Racing by definition is ultimately measured by results, and when they're weeks if not months in the waiting, and many times incorrect, frankly it detracts from the experience. One of the guys in my class that only races occasionally with Conference asked me where he could view results so he could share his excitement with his friends that haven't yet run with Conference in hopes of convincing them to come out. I had to tell him that the results usually don't get published for some time, sorry. It really seemed like a missed opportunity frankly. We are fairly unique in this area unfortunately, and I'm not sure why.
Now please let me say without qualification that I appreciate the efforts by the timing and scoring people. As a Conference volunteer myself, I appreciate that these people are also volunteers and have our best interests at heart. It has got to be an incredibly difficult job, under difficult circumstances. The problems cannot have anything to do with their committment, it has got to be a problem of equipment and technology.
The question then is, what can we as Conference do to make the timing and scoring job easier and more accurate, and able to be published immediately?
