The everyman crapcan thread.

Great SCOTT!
It seems there was expanding Crapcan conversation with the IT-J thread and the Enduro thread that we need an official Chump/Lemons/Star Projects thread... a "crapcan" thread.

I figure that Conference folks like to crapcan as well so hey, why not?

Star Projects RAT RACE (I couldn't find a primary website if there is one)

Now before we get TOO carried away... I meet co-workers, autoXers, HPDE junkies and of course, friends and family that think the racing is "cool." How could they not? Racing is life. However, few of them want to be full fledged race car drivers, own their own race cars, trailers, tow vehicles etc. However, many of them would like a chance at racing. Crapcan is a great opportunity to allow them to easily and cheaply participate in a very relaxed environment. It could be a way for us normal joe-hero racers to share our passion with others.

Anyone else intrigued by this idea? I can think of a couple people who aren't racing because "life" happened and this would we a great way to get them back in a drivers seat.

Thread is also for any random CrapCan chat as well.

Keep in mind as I understand it, you could buy a car for $1000, sell off parts needing to be removed, etc and get down to the $500 price that way! Maybe the CC regulars can chime in and verify that. Or can you just bring in a really nasty looking race car such as Mike Adams smashed up and multi rattle canned 944!!

Bill-

ChumpCar doesn't work that way. In CC, you're responsible for finding your car's AIV: Average Internet Value, the average price of similar cars listed online around the country. Find the 10 lowest prices for running cars and average them. That's your value.

Sure, Bill, go right ahead and do that. :D

Jay Lamm (Lemons founder) may have something to say about that!

Which is why I won't run Lemons. Supposedly if you could get it running again you can go back out. Who would want to with the cage being compromised.

If I do one it will be CC.

Not quite true. If you can get it running again it would have to pass tech again before returning to the track. Nobody passes tech with a compromised cage.
I could point out some of the statements in the enduro, IT-J and everyman threads made are just almost insinuative.
I will add a plug for Rat Race (I have participated in LeMons, Chump and Rat Race) - the food was better there than any of the others so far, (but not as good as TC). I'm also a big fan of racing (or doing something a lot like real racing) at ORP.
cheers,
Tim

Mike, where the heck do you find these things!...looked like a cat playing with a dead mouse.:D

Also were you encouraging me to arrive at $500 via subtraction, or bringing out a ratty looking demo derby type race car?

Bill-

PS...I really think we all have too much time on our hands and it's not even mid January!

Interesting... the Rat Race video had me thinking Hmmm, looks like any ol' race I've ever been to or participated in., while the LeMons video made me think Holy crap, what a mess! Don't want to race with those guys without having a serious cage in the car.

Bill, we normally run BFG G force sports (340 treadwear) but -uh- the rat race didn't exactly specify a tire rule and there was an opportunity to run R6's and I sort did the carpe diem thing.
I got a great deal on 4 ($100).
The problem was they were very used (advertised honestly as 20% treadwear remaining) and they had exactly 6 hours of life left.
The race was 6 hrs and 43 minutes.

What's the word on Dunlop Direzza Star Specs (tread wear rating of 200, IIRC)? I would expect them to be a good choice for crapcan racing.

We shredded a set of 200 TW tires a long time ago in 224 miles at Reno-Fernley. The BFG's last and we have tuned the suspension around those tires. They work so we stick with them. We can get 3 race weekends out of them or about 2500 miles pretty regularly. We may try some sticky tires again, but maybe not.
