Spokane Update

Only issue I have with the new layout is a lack of a pit lane and how short the track is, I would rather see ess's leading onto the straight like riverside and buttonwillow. my bet is they leave the pits where it is and expand it into the old hot pit

Daryl,
One of the plans that was dicussed was to remove the mound where the turn 10 flag station sits on. This would be from the track entry to the circle track south parking area.
A lot will have to happen before any of this can be done, but the County has been moving forward with thier plans to locate a new track operator. Someone else mentioned
that the water and sewer infrastructure was another priority. From what I gather from the one of our meetings, They both are located at the corner of Hayford, and Sprague.

When I scanned the image I attched to my earlier post I had to resize so small that it's hard to see the detail of the proposed layout. If any of you want the full sized version I can email it to you directly.

Just got a chance to look at the proprosed realinment of the track. The problem I see here is that we lose the infield paddock. Where do these planners think the paddock and parking is going to be? In old t9-t10? Be nice to know.

Hmmm...

Not that we are averse to the proposal of Special Race Groups here in the IRDC- quite the contrary! We have a strong relationship with the Pro-3 group and they help out on so many levels that even those who race under the PNW BMW CCA banner are nearly IRDC members. (C'mon guys - make it official and just join up, you know you want to!) They have put on several great shows at special race groups in the past and we certainly hope they do so for the forseeable future.

BUT - this is the first I have heard of a Porsche 944 Cup race at Conference event at Pacific Raceways. I would have to assume (making a "what" out of U and ME) that it is the scheduled IRDC race on those dates, and if that is indeed the case - I would probably know about it?

Drum roll please .............. I don't know anything about this.

Perhaps the intention is simply for the group to enter in one of our regular race groups and classes and then tabulate their own points from their finishing order in that race group. A" race within a race" if you will.

As always, we wish to be as inclusive as possible and welcome qualified drivers to come and get a taste of our frendship and hospitality. A very large percentage of those who race with us once come back and race with us again because of the friendship and camraderie that goes along with the clean and competitive racing.

If a Special Race at one of our events is desired, they are in short supply and high demand. I am open to proposals - the earlier the better!

Once again: If anyone would like to receive a copy of the full-sized version of this 'propsed' track layout I posted earlier please let me know and I'll send it to you. It's much easier to see what the track actually would look like if built as pictured...
Or you can copy and blow it up on your own.

I only know what I read on our forums. I assumed this was worked out by our regional Cup director Greg Fordahl. We run as ITS cars in SCCA, which means Group 5, where I ran all last year. It has been mentioned several times that we would like to come to ICSCC events but to date, that has not happened. I don't do politics, I just want to come race.

FWIW, that 'special' race group would be my only reason to come out to Spokane so... no Cup crossover, no entry from me. Not worth all the time and money to race against nobody in ITS. There are plenty of other chances for me to come out and race against nobody a lot closer to home. Having 944 Cup guys run with Conference, even 'not special' in Group 5, could mean 10 more entries on a good weekend. That's good money.

Sure would be nice to know... would certainly affect my planned schedule for 2010.

Schwank.

Rick answered your question with that response. If I understand correctly 944 cup guys are MORE then welcome to race in ICSCC and have a race-within-a-race.

What Rick means by a SPECIAL RACE is, at many ICSCC races we have 1 'extra' or can make an extra time slot for a SPECIAL race GROUP. It's usually some tin-top class such as Pro-3 or Miata's or the GT cars that 'get' these special races. Matter of fact, even the Legends got a special race in 2009!

That is what Rick is talking about in terms of working out the details in advance with the race organizers.

I understand that... 44 Cup is not a class in any one organization, instead we accept multiple prep levels across SCCA, NASA, and PCA. We always could have run as ITS cars and deal with 44 Cup points outside of Conference, much as we do with SCCA. It just so happens that I was the only one to ever do so, because I could run more events close to home that way. But the theory is we wanted to grow our class and then come over as 944 Cup since frankly our cars are not competitive with actual ITS cars like Ron Tanner's Z... we pretty much compete against each other.

I assumed that as it was on our schedule it was approved as such. I don't see a separate Pro3 schedule anywhere, just conference, so one would assume it was dealt with during schedule finalization. That said, Pro3 runs under Group 1 and ITS cars run as Group 5, so unless this was to take place as a ITA / ITS battle it would seem a special race would be the ticket. But the IRDC pres says that subject has not been broached, nor have I seen any mention of it from ICSCC or Pro3. Again, I don't know the background... I literally only know what was posted on that schedule page I linked earlier.

Guess I have to follow up with Greg F on this one... assuming he has slept off his Daytona hangover. ;)

Sorry to sorta de-rail the thread... it is related in a way. I was kinda looking forward to finally racing there. Hopefully it still goes off as planned.

YES indeed hopefully it gets worked out somehow. Would really ENJOY seeing a bunch of 944's running against each other. That is ONE race weekend my brother (yes, 944 driver) would come out for at the Pacific weekend.

One more thing to add about races in Spokane, is that the Northern Quest Resort and Casino the title sponsor from last year has finished construction of the
hotel. We attended a banquet there the other night and the facilities are fantastic. We toured one of the Jr. Suites and it was way nicer then we expected
it to be. At least there will be one more nice place to stay close to the track this Summer.

Just heard back that the Pro3 / 44 Cup challenge events are kind of a grassroots effort that is working its way up the chain of command. Hence why it is not 'official' yet.

Still keeping my fingers crossed!!!

We have talked about a special race for the 944's and Pro 3's here in Spokane. Frankly we are always excited about having a special race here. It would be really cool to see the race between the 944's and Pro 3's.

Please keep us in mind Eric when you make up your schedule. There is a lot of support to make this happen! Including myself!

NWMS has a meeting on Wednesday and I'm sure that more will come to light on this.

#14 groups 1-5
and this year group 3

Interesting - I think that a "Deutsch Sportcoupé Herausforderung" pitting 944s against E30s would make for a full, fast, and fun special race group.

As I said, I am open to proposals - don't work your way up the chain with IRDC - go directly to the head of the class and give me a call or send me an e-mail. There have been several groups that have expressed interest, so don't wait!

Thanks - Rick

Please dont forget the E36, fits right in with 944's and E30s. :)

Oh and you 944 guys get your proposal in to Rick!
