New NASA Spec Class: Spec Z (Nissan 350Z)

NASA does seem to try a lot of new classes. Some succeed (e.g., SpecE30) and some don't (e.g., Spec Focus).

Hey, you have to try new things, right? It'll be interesting to see if this and B-Spec meet with success.

Is it racing season yet?

I'm planning on flying to Utah in April to specifically to watch the Spec B group at Miller Motorsports and do some Go-Karting there too with dad. Can't wait!

Cool. MSP looks like a pretty cool track.

BTW, some folks up in BC are building B-Spec race cars. The CACC has recognized the class for 2012 so maybe we'll see some at Conference races at Mission. I'm not sure what class they'll run in at the Conference races there. I think Curt might be campaigning a car.

SSC is the class they can run in. they are slower then a midpack ITA car. i raced with the mazda2 and fit in b-spec trim at the 25hr 2010.

They have had a few Spec classes fail but at least they try them.

I just got this in an email from Mazda Motorsports. It is the parts list for a B Spec Mazda 2.

Mazda 2 / B-Spec Parts Kits- Available mid-February

The Mazda 2 / B-Spec parts kits will be available in just a couple weeks. The Mazda 2 suspension kit has been tested extensively, making the Mazda 2 perhaps the best handling car in the class. The parts kit includes components listed below and is priced at $2575.00. Call us today to reserve your kit.

- Front & Rear Shocks (Bilstein w/ special valving)

- Race, Helper springs and spacers

- Front sway bar end link

- Rear Sway Bar (adjustable)

- Front crash/camber bolts

- Front & Rear Brake Line Kits (Stop-Tech)

- Cat-Back Exhaust System

- Air Filter (Green Filter)

- Oil Cooler Kit (sandwich style oil cooler)

- A/C Delete Kit (idler pulley)

in the rain race of 2010 the fit got 4th in class and the best mazda2 was 7th and my team was 10th that year. the 2011 race all dry only one mazda2 raced and they finished 9th right behind my team.

the fit kit is going to be 3k of parts

B Spec is expanding.. The FIAT 500 is going to be included as well as a couple other newer sub-compact cars. I will see if I can find the information I am regurgitating, but I expect B-spec to get some decent exposure over the next few seasons (and some better factory support..)

This is a newer article:

5 different manufactures throwing support at the class should help it grow some legs..

MINI Cooper is also a great B-spec opportunity. Hendrick Motorsports is selling the parts package and or will build one to B-spec. Should be a fun class to run in with so many great makes in the mix.

just announce today that there will be prize money from the factories. "Drivers placing 1st, 2nd or 3rd in any of the nine TCB races scheduled in 2012 will receive $1,000, $750 or $500 respectively. The Touring Car B-Spec class will run at three of the scheduled eight Pirelli World Challenge event weekends" i belive the other 6 B-spec races will run on Grand-Am weekends

you know you want to..

Consider it a financial advantage since there is a 'possibility' of winning $$$..

just not likely at a Conference race!
