So far I’ve just added:Besides the classes that Steve mentioned, it may be eligible for ITS or CT4. Modifications are fairly limited in those two classes, similar to for example, Spec Miata. Depending how far you've gone or how far you want to go with the build, you have quite a few options. Improved Production's allowable modifications are sort of in between ITS/CT4 and SPU/ITE. Super Production/ITE have for the most part unlimited modifications. ST is a horsepower to weight class and allows quite a few modifications as well. Needless to say, there are plenty of classes for the car to slot into.
Thanks! I appreciate all the information. ITS seems like I’d have to cary a TON of ballast to meet min weight. The water pump came with the good-win rad and I was a little unsure if it would be legal so I kept the stock one in case I needed to refit it. I’ve been looking at the online version of the GCR but it’s kind of hard to parse, think I need to get the paper version. The radiator and hoses are fine for any class. For ITS the cold air intake is allowed. The coolant reservoir should be okay for CT4 and ITS. The water pump is probably technically not okay for ITS/CT4 or at least I can't find where they can be replaced with one other than a stock equivalent. In ITS, a different water pump pulley size is allowed which partially achieves the same thing this water pump is supposed to do. The Spec MX-5 class has to use the stock water pump so I'm not sure there was a need to replace it unless you were doing engine mods. Personally, for ITS I wouldn't be all that concerned about the modifications you've already done. Since ITS rules also allow you to run in CT4, I wouldn't be all that concerned about running CT4 either. Those classes will be the best if you don't want to throw a bunch of money at the car. Just an FYI, for the more open classes like SPU, ITE, ST, and E Improved Production, all of the modifications you've made so far are fine for those classes. Another thing to consider is minimum race weight. The minimum weight for ITS seems a little heavy at 2740 w/driver whereas the CT4 weight is 2550 w/driver.
To make sure that you aren't doing more to the car than you're allowed to for those classes, be sure and reference the ITS and T4 rules in the SCCA GCR. ICSCC follows T4 rules for the CT4 class along with some addons like allowing ITS and PRO3 to be part of the class. The rules go into pretty good detail on what is allowed. A general rule is that if it doesn't say you can, then you can't.
Was reading though GCR and I believe T4 is only for the club model? Mine is a touring so I believe i would be T3 as it doesn’t specify a trim just says NC 06-15. So I believe my intake will be legal. Says cold air intake permitted and doesn’t specify a part #.Yes, the GCR is not easy to read through! I would go to the T4 class (pages 665-672 in the current version) and read through that and then scroll down a bit to where it shows the cars allowed in T4. There it'll show the allowable wheel and tire sizes, minimum weight, and miscellaneous other notes for each car.
I think your best option is going to be CT4. You'll have to remove the cold air intake but CT4 has quite a few cars to race with so it should be fun, and not to mention the least expensive class to build to. CT4 cars typically run about mid pack in Group 5, they aren't the fastest cars in the group and not the slowest. Looking forward to seeing the car on track!
Your Touring model is okay for T4. It's confusing how they list cars, and they don't seem to be consistent on how they do it. Sometimes they use commas and sometimes a slash. They list 06-15 but the club model isn't offered in all of those years so it would be a lot cleaner if they did the same as T3 and just say NC MX-5. As long as the car meets the specs in the other columns, you'll be good. The car could also race in T3. They allow a lower weight, larger wheel width, cold air, and a few other things to make the car faster and more competitive in T3. I don't think many NC's go the T3 route though. And unfortunately, Conference doesn't have a T3 or CT3 class, so you'd be looking at probably either ST2 or ST3, EIP, SPU, and ITE as classes that you'd slot into. Was reading though GCR and I believe T4 is only for the club model?
