An ICON in the sport - lost

While I was standing in a very long tech line last July at Road America a very nice older fellow rolled up in his golf kart and announced that he would tech my car for me. I grabbed my log book and as I walked over to him he stuck out his hand and said "hi, I'm Joe Stimola, nice to meet you." We only chatted for a few minutes before he was off to the next car, but he was a very nice soft spoken gentlemen who made me feel welcome at a very hectic and strange track. I wish we had talked longer.
Thanks for posting this Rich.

Wow, nice story, Wes. So you met Mr. Formula Ford.

Some great story's and memories being posted on Apexspeed about him. Sounds like a real gentleman of our sport with endless credentials. I didn't realize he worked with Boris Said, Chip Ganassi, Bobby Rahal, Paul Newman and endless others.

We have a set of Koni's I planned on sending to him for rebuild. I'm sure the people in his shop will carry on eventually but they won't get the 'magic touch' of Joe now. :(
