New Track Configuration

Two Words.....

RE: Ballast at drivers change.

I'll have to check with Mike to see how changing weight at the drivers change will go, but I'm going to guess that the weights will be changed as needed. The drivers change may have a minimum pit time to allow time for weight changes for those that need it / and to equalize things for teams that don't.

When we do your race we can set the zero weight to anything you'd like. Just bear in mind that the maximum that we can add is 60lbs. For drivers greater than 60lbs under the zero weight additional weight will have to be provided by the driver in the form of a weight vest.

For those drivers over the zero weight I have two words: Jenny Craig............

Results of the WIKC

Hey race fans....

Just a quick update on the results of the Washington Indoor Kart Challenge. The event went off without a hitch! 20 racers participated in the races which featured our first use of ballast and our first rolling starts.

The ballast system was flawless! And it was really cool to watch as the racing became all about the driver's skill and not about who was lighter than whom.

We will be using the ballast system on all upcoming event races. The next one is an 8 hour endurance race scheduled for late August. It will be run like all the other endurance races in indoor karting, with maximum stint lengths of 45 minutes, but drivers are allowed to do doubles (they just have to pit at the 45 minute mark). With the longer track we're also able to field alot more teams than before (14-15) so the racing is a lot more exciting!

The winner of the WIKC was Tony Hana from Portland, OR. He's a member of the Smith Development Racing team and has competed at the National Level for a number of years. Second was taken by a local driver, Ben Wallace. He live out in Elma and works at Cabela's as a boat mechanic. Third was taken by Chad Stockton from Bremerton. He used to be the heavy class champion at Sykart in Tukwila. All in all it was a fantastic first event and we're really excited to be moving forward with more and more professional style races.

Our new Race Director, Mike Smith, is looking forward to putting on a 12 hour for you guys. We'll probably want to start talking about in earnest in November if we're going to run it in early February.

That's it for now. You can follow our daily activities on twitter (except Rod, who can't find the power button for his computer, let alone figure out how to find Twitter!), it's www.twitter.com/apexkarting
