F. Window safety nets must be used on the driver’s side window of all
closed cars. The window net must be equipped with a quick release
device. If net is attached to door, door shall be pinned. Velcro or duct
tape is not acceptable fastening.

What is the purpose of the pin if the window net is attached to the door? It makes sense on a tube frame car... but on a production car with the OE latches it just seems ridiculous.

My guess is, it's trusting that factory latch to remain latched in the event of collision with inanimate object. If the net were attached to the door and then the door swung open, well, it doesn't much matter that there was a window net there in the first place.

I've modified my doors and reduced the opening mechanism to a minimum...I'm not trusting the remaining parts to hold in the worst case scenario.
