Potential PRO3?
The 1984 has no ABS, so that doesn't need to deleted.
The 1984 has the older wiring harness (1986 and newer are plug and go) so an "i" motor conversion would involve extensive rewiring. Ok if you are going for a total strip and build.
The diff needs to be changed from the 2.92 to something like a 3.73 or 4.10 and be limited slip.

Alternately keep it as an eta, add a roll cage and safety gear and run ITA like Blois and Sheppy. They have sport street suspension (ala Spec E30) and something like 3.12 diffs. They run in the upper 3rd of the ITA group and have a ball. With a 4500RPM redline they will never need a motor rebuild.

But with only 241K it is barely broke in for an eta motor. If the car has been maintained it is good for that many more km. Why not keep it as a driver?

Thanks guys for the advice and info. I know squat about BMW's - haven't owned one since a 73 Bavaria many years ago. Camaros and such I know a little about, but not BM's.

There is another Beemer in the pipeline - a somewhat modified 91 318is and I can't keep both of them.

What can you tell me about the 318is - have been told it is somewhat finicky and maybe hard to get parts for?
