The recent pictures from the 1967 USRRC at Kent re-energized my appetite for US sports car racing history.

A good website, if you're interested, is:

See Also Tam's website, cited therein.

Pretty interesting to see some of the photos from to '50s, '60s and '70s, especially at world-class tracks like Riverside that no longer exist.

Riverside on TV

I've been watching Comcast Channel 514, every couple days they show "On The Beach" 1959, about 100 minutes in there's a fictional auto race, staged at Riverside Raceways (then 2 years old). The gaggle of old Ferraris, Porsches, Gullwings, etc "racing" are cool; the cars that spin out and spontaneously explode into flames are interesting; but the amazing thing are the scenic panoramas, showing Riverside in the middle of a deserted, featureless plain, 10 miles to the edge San Gabriel mountains, not a building in sight. Riverside was eaten up by Urban Sprawl in the late 1980s, too bad...
