ORP Update

OREGON RACEWAY PARK
UPDATE
February 25-26, 2012
PHOTO ATTACHMENTS (Four Pages).

Thanks to the intrepid folks who braved the inclement forecast and came out for the first two events of the year. Turnout was lower than had been hoped for, but as it turned out, weather was better than had been predicted. Judging by the enthusiasm of the participants the weekend was a success.

Saturday’s event: “O.R.P. The Raceway Experience” brought in over $500.00 and over 150 cans of food for the Mid Columbia Community Action Council Food Bank. Participation in the advertising for this event was helped out by generous assistance of local radio stations, as well as regional printed and electronic media.

Presenters included: Portland Karting Association, Hooked on Driving, ProFormance, 2- Fast Motorcycle School, Autocross Club of Central Oregon, Team Continental , The RAT RACE Series, and O.R.P. Club. Also finding time at the last minute to make an appearance were members of the two time World Championship, Formula S.A.E. car from Oregon State University. The opportunity to “drive the track in your own car” was a big hit with our guests, and most got a chance to run the track in both directions.

Sunday’s Event: “Beat Them to The Start” offered some “unique driving opportunities” with the afternoon punctuated by no less than three snow flurries. The rule is when “tower to tower visibility” is lost, the track is closed until conditions improve. They did, twice. Some prudently threw in the towel early but at 5:00 p.m. those that waited it out were still on course until the checkered. The range of participants ran from senior instructor level to first time on course beginners. The classroom part of the school was held in the track office, and was open to all participants at no cost.

Coming events: This Saturday, March 3rd STAR Projects and Team Continental combine to present an advanced training seminar for Performance Driving Instructors. That is this weekend, at the Pearson Air Museum in Vancouver. Details on www.motorsportsreg.com.

March 10th: “O.R.P. Course worker training”. This event includes; a morning classroom and the afternoon features on course training “under real time conditions” assisted by senior level driving instructors. This is the first step in becoming an O.R.P. course worker. “Watch races and get paid for it too”. Again sign up is on www.motorsportsreg.com.

More information on all these and future events visit www.starprojectsevents.com website.

The new garages will have their final inspection in the morning and be ready for occupancy. One unit is still for sale. Rental opportunities may be available, Contact Tom Miller for availability and reservations. tandbmiller@msn.com

Garages? Sweeeeet.

Is ORP the first of "our" tracks to have rental garages? I don't recall any at Mission (haven't been in a while) and I know there aren't any at the others (yet). Nice.
